Amazon intensifies its involvement in „The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power“. Patrick McKay and JD Payne are expanding their partnership with Amazon as they have signed a new three-year deal with the company and started early work on the third season.
The company Amazon confirmed the news in a statement, first reported by „THR“. The deal also marks the establishment of a new production company by McKay and Payne called „10:40PM Productions“.
„We embarked on this exceptional journey with JD and Patrick over five and a half years ago and have never looked back,“ wrote Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MG Studios, in the statement.
He adds:
„We continue to be amazed by the scope and scale of their vision, as well as the tremendous global success achieved during the record-breaking first season of ‘The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power’. We can’t wait for Prime Video users to experience the epic adventure and high-stakes drama that JD and Patrick continue to build through the second season and beyond. of course, the studio is thrilled to extend our overall agreement with these great creative minds as they continue to pursue their passion for great storytelling.“
It is also noted in the statement that Amazon has already begun work on the third season of „Rings of Power“. It is important to note that this is very early work – the writers’ room has not yet been opened, and they have only „begun developing the initial story concept“, according to Amazon, but this is the first official news about a potential third season.
Amazon adds that by the time production begins on the third season, they will move from Bray Studios to another location in the UK, „a completely new production base at nearby Shepperton Studios.“
„The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power“ premiered in 2022 on Prime Video. Before the series even began airing, Amazon announced in 2019 the renewal for a second season, which is set to appear this year, as reported by „b92“.
